The Night Side of Nature; or Ghosts and Ghost Seers.
London: George Routledge and Sons, n.d. [1890s?]. Reprint. Hardcover. [ii], 502pp + [viii] (publisher's advertisements for The Railway Library Novels, and similar series). With the original patterned and slightly foxed endpapers: bookplate with erased ownership name to front pastedown, and scrawled biro ownership names to back free endpaper: [this was at the front, but the free endpapers have been professionally switched]. No Preface or Contents page to this copy - nor any sign of their removal - but scans of these from an earlier edition with the same pagination are laid in. Pages generally clean, and slightly toned, with occasional light soiling, and with spotting occasionally encroaching from the the closed fore-edge. There is heavy foxing to the title page, which reduces until about p.20. An extensive consideration of the field, with many accounts and thoughtful conjectures. 18.5x12cms, firm, in the original sturdy binding of black cloth, spine titled gilt. The cloth to the upper board is ridged with small bubbles, the spine is dulled, and the ends have been made good. Good Victorian reprint of a signal work. VG. Item #18900110
